Virtualization & Cloud
We transform IT datacenter in a fully or partially virtualized datacenter. This is done based on multiple studies and planning phases conducted by our architecture team to make sure the proposed virtualization plan will definitely increase the datacenter productivity, and yet decrease the the operation and capital expenses.
What is Virtual Datacenter ?
The best way to answer this question is by imagining you order a regular pizza with one topping (No one yet has introduced the concept of more than one topping). No matter how large the or small the pizza is, you still get the taste of one topping. Then some genius comes and introduces the concept of having more than one topping on the same pizza. That was a great idea but the problem is, not everybody likes pineapples with pepperoni except you and one of friends is vegetarian. This will force you to order another pizza and cost you more money. Then some other genius comes and says you can divide the pizza into as much slices as you can and you can have whatever topping on each part.
This is basically the idea of virtualization, at the beginning, IT datacenters where constraints by one Operating system per physical server. Then they discovered they can have more than one OS on the same server but it will definitely affect performance and they will be always mixed up on the CPU and RAM level. Then the Virtualization concept came on to allow us to use one physical server to hold as much virtual servers the hardware allows us to use.
Virtualization, if planned well, can solve big problems of the todays datacenters. The technology allows clustering more than one servers and migrate the virtual servers smoothly between the physical servers without affecting the performance or causing any service interruption. It allows prioritizing load, power management and high availability. This type of features and flexibility was never an option in the old fashion physical based datacenter.
Now with virtualization, a single Administrator can administer large number of servers with ease and from a single pane of glass without the need to frequently interfering with the hardware. Security, Access, storage and networking is also managed from the same pane of glass as the rest of servers.
How about Cloud Solution?
It is the same idea but one step further. When you use cloud, you basically offload your virtual load (partially or fully) to a third party infrastructure. This is usually a great service for non-IT-oriented businesses where the client minimizes operation expenses as much as possible making IT infrastructure somebody’s else problem.
From a cloud provider point of view, it is a profitable business. The SP invests a large capital in building robust and relatively large datacenter and then renting prices of it to clients. The client in this case doesn’t have to take care of inventory renewal, hardware repairs, or even IT environment administration… They only need someone to take care of the VM.
